Modernizing board preparation through learning and connection.

Why OPTA exists, what shaped it, and the future we are working toward for optometry students.

A SUNY College of Optometry student-led initiative

Built from inside the board-prep journey

Preparing for NBEO® Part I is often overwhelming and isolating, with existing commercial resources offering static question banks, high costs, and little collaboration, which leaves many students unsure how to begin or stay motivated.

OPTA is a student-led initiative built from the inside to address these gaps. Born from late nights in the library trading questions and discussing high-yield concepts, the platform moves beyond hours of passive textbook review.

By incorporating detailed practice questions, accessible study tools, and a national support network where students can share mnemonics, tips, and encouragement, OPTA transforms board prep from a solitary grind into a shared journey. Built from a student's perspective, it addresses overlooked needs around pacing, confidence-building, and interactive learning.

Instead of focusing on business models, OPTA emphasizes clarity, motivation, and long-term mastery—helping students stay organized, track their growth, and feel genuinely supported throughout their studying.

Ultimately, OPTA aims to modernize and humanize NBEO® preparation by combining adaptive learning with nationwide connection—ensuring no student feels alone and every future optometrist has a clear, supportive path to success.
